Already in 2017, the German automaker Mercedes intends to start selling the hydrogen version of the GLC SUV, which will receive the F-Cell prefix, and in 2017, the German automaker Mercedes intends to start selling the hydrogen version of the GLC SUV, which will receive the F-Cell prefix.

The car will be the world's first hydrogen-powered crossover that can still be recharged via a regular electrical network.

Recall that 7 years ago, Mercedes showed a hydrogen version of the B-class, which, however, could not be purchased, but could only be rented. Unlike its predecessor, the newly-retired GLC F-Cell will be on sale closer to mid-2017, and the sales markets for the model will be Germany, America and Japan.

The car will be able to run both on hydrogen and on several electric motors, which, according to the designers, will make the use of the car more comfortable. For example, at night, the owner can put the crossover on recharge, which will allow not to use hydrogen and drive about 48 km. At the same time, the mileage of a car with a full tank of hydrogen exceeds 500 km, and this guarantees the operation of the car at one refueling for at least a week. The process of filling the GLC F-Cell with hydrogen is not much different from that of gasoline or diesel fuel and takes about 3 minutes.

However, despite some advantages, the hydrogen engine also has a number of significant disadvantages, including the high cost of a car and a small number of gas stations.

Separately, we note that a number of manufacturers are skeptical about the future of hydrogen cars. Thus, the company Hyundai Motors has officially abandoned the development of cars on hydrogen, considering them unpromising for the near future.
