The Scion car brand is little known in the Russian market - however, this is not surprising, since the company was created specifically for the American consumer.
Scion ("Sion") is a sub-brand of the Japanese automaker Toyota, which was created in mid-2002 and is positioned as a manufacturer of youth cars. At the beginning of 2016, the Toyota management made a strong-willed decision to close the brand, which fell on August 2016, and from the beginning of 2017, Sion cars will be sold under the brand of their progenitor.
The latest model from the Scion brand is the iM, which was first shown in November 2014 at the Los Angeles Auto Show. It should be noted right away that the car did not become a revelation and is a somewhat redesigned Toyota Auris of the second generation, which has received a more aggressive appearance, which will certainly appeal to young people, who are the main consumer audience of the brand.
Unlike its parent, the car is offered with only one engine, while potential buyers can additionally order a special package from the Toyota racing division, which includes a redesigned injection system, sports shock absorbers and a number of other elements designed to make the car more dynamic.

The new Scion iM has a dynamic and stylish appearance that is made in the best traditions of the latest Toyota vehicles. The front of the hatchback is ready to boast a slightly squinted head optics with modern LED daytime running lights, a stylish false radiator grille, the design of which, unlike the Auris, is made in the form of a honeycomb, as well as a sporty front bumper with a huge air intake.
When looking at the hatchback profile, one cannot fail to note the presence of a windshield piled up towards the stern, thanks to which the drag coefficient was reduced to 0.28 Cx, as well as a smoothly falling roof, making the car look more dynamic and sporty.
Neat wheel arches, an original triangular C-pillar and stylish alloy wheels deserve special attention. The rear of the hatchback received a compact tailgate, an original form of lighting for the side lights, as well as a massive rear bumper with a sporty-designed diffuser, which once again emphasizes the brand's youthful orientation.
The dimensions of the new Scion iM are:

The wheelbase of the car is 260 cm, which is one of the best indicators in the class. The ground clearance height is 120 mm, which is 20 mm lower than that of the single-platform Toyota Auris, but even this is enough for the car to confidently overcome the "speed bumps" and enter the curbs.
We are impressed by the appearance of the Scion iM, which literally adjusts to an aggressive driving style (fortunately, the hatchback's dynamic characteristics are all right).

The interior of the novelty completely repeats that of the Auris model, and this is good news, since the Japanese have managed to create a truly attractive, ergonomic and modern interior.
Directly in front of the driver is a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, which provides a comfortable grip, as well as a modern dashboard with large dials of speed and rpm indicators, as well as an on-board computer display. The central part of the dashboard is represented by an infotainment and a microclimate control unit.
Particularly noteworthy are the stylish air duct reflectors made in aviation style, which, together with the original aluminum inserts, make the cabin more presentable.
The Japanese emphasize that when creating the interior they used better finishing materials, and also improved the fit of parts to each other, however, the assembly of "Toyota" salons has long been of no concern to anyone.
The front seats are distinguished by good ergonomics, and thanks to a wide range of adjustments, they will easily accept a passenger of any size. Between the chairs there is a small armrest, at the base of which there is a small box for various small things.
The second row sofa is designed for three adult riders, while there is enough free space not only in height and width, but also in length.
The trunk volume of the Sion iM is 360 liters, which may not be a record figure in the class, but it will be enough for most of the potential buyers of the model.
The interior of the hatchback attracts with high-quality finishing materials, well-thought-out ergonomics of the driver's workplace, as well as a spacious interior designed for five adult riders. The manufacturer himself emphasizes that the car interior, due to improved noise insulation and the use of modern materials, is one of the quietest in the class, and this is indeed the case.

Unlike its counterpart, which offers a choice of one of three gasoline engines, two diesels or a hybrid gasoline-electric power unit, the Scion iM is represented by only one engine - a 1.8-liter 137-horsepower gasoline engine, which is standardly aggregated with a 6-speed manual Checkpoint.
For an additional fee, the buyer can equip the CVTi-S with a variator, which is tuned in such a way as to provide a more dynamic and high-spirited ride. This engine provides the hatchback with good dynamic characteristics: acceleration from 0 to 100 takes less than 10 seconds, and the maximum speed is limited to 195 km / h. Despite the sporty nature, the fuel consumption of the car varies between 5.5-7.5 liters per 100 kilometers.
The car is built on the first generation Toyota Auris platform, which assumes the presence of MacPherson struts at the front and beams at the rear.
The car is offered exclusively in a front-wheel drive configuration, however, there were rumors that the model could also receive an all-wheel drive transmission. Especially for the Scion iM, Japanese engineers reconfigured the suspension and shock absorbers, which had a positive effect on handling, but the car cannot be called “soft” - the suspension is well knocked down and works out minor irregularities very nervously.
However, this in no way spoils the driving experience, and you shouldn't forget that unlike the “family-friendly” Auris, the iM is set up as a more driver's car.

Toyota has long earned a reputation for being reliable and extremely safe vehicles, so it would be surprising if the Scion iM turned out to be different. As befits a modern hatchback, the car is equipped with a large number of electronic assistants, including:
- Advanced anti-lock braking system;

- Active cruise control;
- Electronic brake force distribution system;
- Sensors for tracking "dead" zones, road markings and the driver's condition;

Conclusion on the new Scion iM 2016
The 2016 Scion iM is a slightly improved Toyota Auris with more aggressive looks, sporty suspension and steering tuned, and improved dynamic performance.
At the same time, the car retained the main features of Auris: a spacious interior, excellent ergonomics of the workplace, a spacious trunk and a wide list of standard and optional equipment.
