The Goodwood Festival of Speed, which took place in the summer of 2015, was the venue for a preview of a charged modification of the Peugeot 308 GTI, built on the basis of the usual 308 second generation.

The official premiere of the novelty took place three months later as part of the annual auto show in Frankfurt, where the car was warmly received not only by auto journalists, but also by ordinary people. And 2 years later, the company introduced a restyled version of the Peugeot 308 GTI, which received a number of cosmetic improvements and a richer list of standard and optional equipment, but retained the technical stuffing of its predecessor.

Note that even 3 years after its debut, the "charged" Peugeot 308 remains one of the fastest production cars in its class, which, moreover, has a stylish and dynamic appearance.

Against the background of the civilian version, the hot hatchback version is distinguished by the presence of a more "aggressive" false radiator grille, several large air intakes mounted in the front bumper, as well as spectacular alloy wheels, sporty "skirts" and a rear diffuser with large exhaust nozzles scattered around the edges.

In addition, a charged Peugeot 308 can be distinguished by the red “Peugeot” lettering on the hood edge and the brand name plates “GTI”, which the manufacturer placed above the front fenders and the luggage compartment lid.


Otherwise, we have in front of us the usual 308th, which has modern front and rear LED lighting technology, spectacular stampings on the sidewalls and a dynamic profile.

For the sake of fairness, we note that the exterior design of the GTI version is almost exactly the same as that of the Peugeot 308 GT, which is one step lower in the 308 lineup.

Unlike the standard Peugeot 308, the ground clearance of which is 130 mm (for the Russian market - 165 mm), the clearance of the GTI modification was reduced by 30 mm, which had a positive effect on the aerodynamics and behavior of the car at high speeds, but negatively on the cross-country ability.

Depending on the version, the car can be presented with spectacular 18-inch or 19-inch alloy rollers, and also have an original two-tone color scheme.

The architecture of the front dashboard is completely identical to the standard Peugeot 308, which means that the buyer can count on a high-quality and laconic design, high-quality materials and workmanship, as well as excellent ergonomics.

In front of the driver is a modern and attractive outwardly multifunction steering wheel with a sporty cut lower rim, as well as a high-positioned instrument panel, represented by several analog indicators and a centrally located on-board computer LCD display.


The central part of the dashboard is represented by a 9.7-inch monitor of the multimedia information center, a compact audio volume control knob with a CD-receiver slot, as well as a number of auxiliary buttons.

Let's make a reservation right away that you can recognize the interior of the GTI version by contrasting red inserts and seams, aluminum pedal pads, “GTI” nameplates and Peugeot Sport inscriptions scattered around the cabin, as well as front sports seats with pronounced lateral support and combined upholstery made of genuine leather and alcantara.

Speaking of the front seats - despite their sporty orientation, they offer a wide range of adjustments and other benefits of civilization. A wide transmission tunnel passes between the seats of the front passengers, on which the manufacturer has placed an electronic parking brake button and a stylish gearshift lever.


Second row of seats offers an impressive margin of free space by the standards of the class, which is seen as the merit of the increased wheelbase (in comparison with the first generation of Peugeot 308).

The volume of the trunk in the standard state is 470 liters, and with the backs of the second row of seats down, it more than doubles. Only the opening of the luggage compartment narrowing towards the bottom is upsetting, which somewhat complicates the loading / unloading of bulky cargo.

Concluding the review of the interior, we note that the car offers impressive list of standard equipment, which includes active cruise control, electric parking brake, parking assistant, advanced multimedia center and a lot of electronic assistants.

2018 Peugeot 308 GTI specs

Unlike the standard Peugeot 308, represented by both gasoline and diesel power plants, under the hood of the GTI version there is exclusively a 1.6-liter turbo engine THP with a direct fuel supply system and having two degrees of boost:

  1. Reproduces 250 hp and 330 Nm of peak thrust, available already at 1900 rpm. With it, acceleration from 0 to 100 requires only 6.2 seconds, which, given the class and cost of the car, is a very decent result.
  2. Generates 270 "horses" and a similar peak torque of 330 Nm. Such a motor accelerates the car for 0.2 seconds. faster than the 250-horsepower modification, while the maximum speed and average fuel consumption are identical and amount to 250 km / h and 6 l / 100 km, respectively.

Regardless of the power of the power plant, the car is aggregated exclusively with a 6-speed manual gearbox, while the top version also includes a limited slip differential. All torque, traditionally for the model, is transmitted to the front axle, and the all-wheel drive transmission is not even available as an option.

From a constructive point of view, the charged Peugeot 308 GTI is almost completely identical to the standard 308., designed on the basis of the proprietary "bogie" EMP2 and equipped with a front independent suspension of the MacPherson type and a torsion beam with an independent architecture at the rear.

At the same time, the hot hatch received stiffer springs, an extended track of the front and rear wheels (1570 and 1554 mm, respectively), increased stiffness of the shock absorbers and a retuned chassis with steering represented by an electro-hydraulic amplifier.

The brake system of the 250-horsepower Peugeot 308 JT-I is represented by disc brakes with a diameter of 330 and 268 mm front and rear (the front ones are supplemented with a ventilation system), and a more powerful 270-horsepower modification is equipped with a carbon-ceramic brake system with a diameter increased to 380 mm front discs.

As befits a modern car, the restyled Peugeot 308 GTI is equipped with a whole a complex of modern security systems, including:

Unfortunately, there is no need to wait for the appearance of the new Peugeot 308 GTI in Russia, but in the countries of the Old World its price starts at 35.55 thousand euros (price in Germany), which currently corresponds to 2.73 million rubles.
