The fourth generation Subaru WRX STI was first demonstrated back in 2014, and three years later, as part of the same North American Auto Show, the debut of the restyled version of the Subaru WRX STI 2017 took place.
In comparison with the previous generation, the car has received a revised appearance in the style of the new Impreza, a better interior and, of course, improved technical stuffing. A pleasant bonus was the fact that a few months after the official debut of the Subaru WRX STI 2017, it was possible to buy it in Russia.
It should be noted that many automotive experts complain about the similarity of the new WRX STI with the latest generation Mitsubishi Lancer Evo, but, as it seems to us, the car looks quite distinctive and certainly better than its predecessors. However, the design of such cars in most cases plays a secondary role, and in the first place is the technical component, which, as our Subaru WRX STI 2017 review showed, can give odds to many supercars.

The appearance of the Subaru Impreza WRX STI 2017 will almost completely repeat that in the WRX version, and the main differences are the presence of a larger rear spoiler, a branded STI badge on the false radiator grille and a body painted in a corporate blue color and gold-colored discs.
The frontal part of the body received predatory lighting equipment, a trapezoidal radiator grill, a huge air intake on the hood and a massive bumper, in which additional air intakes and foglights are located.
The profile of the car has classic sedan proportions, but pleases the eye with muscular wheel arches, a pair of air ducts located behind the front arches, and a domed roofline.
The rear of the Subaru WRX STI received a large spoiler, strict optics of side lights and a laconic bumper with a sports diffuser and two pairs of exhaust pipes. There is also a brand nameplate "STI".
External parameters of the Subarovskaya "lighter" are:

Compared to the previous STI, the novelty has received a more ergonomic and sporty interior, offering not only a higher level of comfort, but also more high-tech content. The driver's seat is represented by a laconic, but at the same time stylish instrument cluster, as well as a stylish and slightly truncated 3-spoke steering wheel with the ability to control the audio system and basic car settings.
The central dashboard has a two-level architecture, in the upper part of which there is a 5.9 "screen of the on-board computer, and just below the 7" monitor of the multimedia unit and a laconic climate control unit, represented by three functional twists. The front pedals already have special aluminum pads in the base, and decorative glossy inserts on the front dashboard are available as an option (in the WRX version - carbon-like).
The front seats have pronounced lateral support, filler ideal in terms of rigidity and electrically adjustable seats. Between the front riders there is a handbrake lever, an armrest and a special box for various small things.
The rear sofa, by the standards of the C-class, offers a sufficient amount of free space, and the sofa itself has a competent layout and profile.
The volume of the trunk in the basic state is equal to 460 liters, but due to the lowering seats of the second row, it can be increased by 2.5 times. Note that under the raised floor there was a place for a stowaway.
The manufacturer notes that in the new Subaru Impreza WRX STI 2017, the characteristics of interior trim materials have noticeably increased, as has the quality of fit of parts, so that even if you want to find fault, it is almost impossible.

Even before the release of the new WRX STI, it was assumed that the car will receive a 2-liter engine similar to the conventional WRX with a capacity of 268 "horses". But in fact, the novelty received a 2.5-liter turbocharged petrol boxer generating an impressive 407 "mares" and 300 Nm of traction transmitted to the front and rear axles in a ratio of 41 to 59.
As a box, the Subaru WRX STI is equipped with the only available 6-band manual transmission, although earlier the car could also be equipped with a 5-level automatic transmission. With such an engine and a gearbox, acceleration from 0 to 100 takes some 5.2 seconds, and the maximum speed is limited by an electronic stranglehold at around 250 km / h, although the real potential of this power unit is much greater.
Fuel consumption in the city can predictably exceed the mark of 14 liters, but on the highway it is quite possible to invest in the figure of 8.4 liters. Fuel consumption in the combined mode is within the 10.5 liter mark for each "hundred square meters". It is also worth noting that it is recommended to refuel the car exclusively with AI98 gasoline.
Already in the basic version, the car is equipped with a proprietary all-wheel drive technology Symmetrical AWD with a triple differential. A helical limited slip differential is installed in the front, a Torsen differential with satellites installed longitudinally at the rear, and the main load falls on the centrally located DCCD differential, which combines a mechanical block and an electromagnetic locking system.
By the way, the DCCD system allows you to choose one of six operating modes, and the stabilization system is able to brake one of the front axle wheels in order to reduce the effect of understeer.
Moreover, the car is equipped with proprietary Si-Drive technology, which is responsible for controlling the power plant and allows you to choose one of three modes of its operation: "Intelligent", "Sport" and "Sport Sharp". Modes are switched by means of a special washer located on the central tunnel.
The front suspension is based on inverted MacPherson struts, and the rear suspension is based on a multi-link. The steering boasts a 13: 1 gear ratio and electric power assistance. Two pairs of ventilated discs are responsible for braking, with Brembo pancakes with 6-piston calipers installed on the front axle.
