In 2017, Toyota celebrated its 80th anniversary, during which it managed to grow from a small loom manufacturer to the largest automotive corporation in the world.

The Toyota brand currently produces cars, commercial vehicles and trucks, as well as buses and automotive components. In the past few years, the company has taken a leading position in the ranking of the best-selling car brands in the world, and its cars rightfully bear the status of one of the most reliable, and this applies to both new and used cars.

We decided to pay tribute to Toyota Motor Corporation and remember the very best models ever produced under the Toyota brand.

Toyota AA

In 1936, Toyota presented its first car, which received the discreet name "AA". The car had at its disposal a 3.4-liter gasoline engine, a simple design and a modern appearance by those standards, made in the style of the Chevrolet Airflow.

The model was liked not only by the public, but also by the Japanese government, which decided to support the brand and allocate money for its subsequent development.

Currently, one of the copies of Toyota AA is exhibited at the Lauvman Museum (Netherlands), where, oddly enough, it came from Russia.

Toyota BJ

In 1953, Toyota's management launched its new model on the market - the Toyota BJ SUV, which was renamed Land Cruiser a year later. The new name for the car was invented by the technical director Henji Umehar, who was faced with the task of coming up with a name no less loud than that of its direct competitor - Land Rover.

Toyota BJ had a simple and reliable design, excellent cross-country ability and its own style. In 1955, the company introduced the second generation of the model, which received real recognition not only in Japan, but also far beyond its borders.

Currently, the Land Cruiser has already changed its 9th generation and deservedly bears the title of one of the most reliable and popular SUVs in the world.

Toyota crown

In 1955, the first Toyota Crown rolled off the assembly line, which is one of the oldest sedans of the Japanese brand, which is still produced today.

This car has a special meaning in the history of the brand's formation - Toyota Crown was one of the first to be exported to the US market. It is noteworthy that in the first years after entering the American market, cars were sold under the Toyopet brand.

Initially, the car was equipped with a 1.4-liter gasoline engine, and in 1960 the line of power plants was expanded with a 1.8-liter engine, which has more power and demonstrates better dynamic characteristics.
Today the 14th generation of the model is being sold in Japan.

Toyota corona

In 1957, Toyota introduced the Toyota Corona, a small family sedan, paved the way for one of the company's most iconic models, the Toyota Corolla. The Corona was the first model of the company to break into the European market, including the UK.

The car was produced for 44 years (from 1957 to 2001), during which it managed to change 11 generations. True, in the last years of its existence, the car was sold exclusively in the domestic market of the Land of the Rising Sun.

Toyota Sports 800

In 1962, Toyota unveiled its first sports car, the Toyota Publica Sports. It was equipped with a 2-liter gasoline engine developing 69 "horses".

The car went into serial assembly in 196, however, already under the name Toyota Sports 800 and with an engine with a capacity of only 45 hp. Such a motor was enough to confidently move around the city at a speed of 70 km / h and accelerate to 160 km / h on the race track.

On the assembly line, the model lasted only 4 years (from 1965 to 1969), but left a noticeable mark in the history of the company, becoming one of the first cars with a targa body.

Toyota Corolla

One of the most iconic cars of the Japanese brand, produced by the company from 1966 until today. Over the entire production time, over 40 million copies of the model were produced, which makes the Corolla one of the best-selling cars in the world.

The following factors became the reason for such a great popularity of the model:

  • attractive appearance;
  • roomy and well-thought-out salon;
  • productive and reliable power plants;
  • low cost.

In November 2018, Toyota demonstrated the 12th generation of the Corolla, which has a bright and moderately aggressive appearance, high-quality interior and efficient power plants that provide an optimal balance between dynamics and efficiency.

Toyota Century

Toyota Century is an executive 4-door sedan produced by the company since 1967. The car offers its customers the highest level of comfort and technology. The car owes its name to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the company's founder.

In 1997, Toyota presented a completely new model Century, which is similar to the original not only in appearance, but also in technical stuffing. In particular, the 5-liter V12 petrol generating an impressive 280 hp.

The fact that Toyota Century is an executive class car is evidenced not only by its dimensions and level of comfort, but also by its cost, which exceeds that of the flagship Lexus LS.

Toyota HiLux

In 1968, the Toyota HiLux pickup was born, which also deserves the title of one of the most iconic Toyota cars in the entire history of the brand.

The car has a pleasant appearance, high reliability and excellent cross-country ability, thanks to which they know about it even in the most remote corners of the Earth from civilization.

To date, the model is presented in the 8th generation, which debuted in 2015. The current generation of the pickup has noticeably increased in size, and also acquired a more stylish, ergonomic and, most importantly, high-quality interior.

Toyota Celica

The first generation Toyota Celica was released in 1970 and was positioned as a more affordable version of the Toyota 2000Gt. If you look closely at the design of the car, you will notice a certain resemblance to the Ford Mustang muscle car, which, without a doubt, can be written down in the piggy bank of the model's merits.

In 1978, the company introduced the second generation of the model, offered as a coupe and liftback.

The last Toyota Celica rolled off the assembly line in 2006, having stayed on the market for 36 years, during which just over 4 million cars were produced. It is noteworthy that despite its age, Celica is still very popular among motorists.

Toyota Camry

It just so happened that the Toyota Camry began its automotive history as a 4-door modification of the iconic Toyota Celica coupe, but after a short period of time it grew into an independent model that gained recognition all over the world.

The first generation of the model was introduced in 1982. The car was equipped with a 1.8-liter 74-horsepower or 2-liter 92-horsepower engine, and also boasted such exotic options as power steering and power windows.

From 1997 to 2016, the Toyota Camry was the best-selling car in America, but sales in the European market were discontinued in 2004, as the car was not very popular among Europeans.

At the present time, the 6th generation of the model (the in-plant index - XV70) is presented on the world market, offering its customers one of the best ratios of cost, quality and reliability in its class.

Conclusion

As a conclusion, I would like to remind you that today Toyota is the largest automotive company in the world, and its cars regularly occupy leading positions in the annual ratings of the most reliable cars in the world.
