Citroen is one of the leading European car manufacturers, whose history began back in 1919. In 1976, the company became part of the PSA concern, which also includes Peugeot.

During its existence, Citroen has produced a huge number of cars, many of which have forever inscribed their name in automotive history. One of these cars is the DS model, produced between 1955-1975.

Inspired by the history of the company, we decided to find out which models deserve the title of the fastest Citroen cars in the entire history of the brand's existence.

Fastest Citroen models

Citroen gt

Usually game car simulators use real versions of cars, but not in the case of the Citroen GT, created specifically for the computer game GT 5 Prologue.

The car was released in a single copy, and its official premiere took place in 2008 as part of the annual Paris Motor Show.

The car has a bright and memorable appearance, on which the famous Japanese designer Takumi Yamamoto worked, a first-class two-seater saloon, as well as high-tech filling.

Under the hood of Citroen GT there is a Ford Modular eight-cylinder petrol engine generating 646 "horses" and developing a maximum speed of 340 km / h. Acceleration from 0 to 100 takes only 3.4 seconds, which still looks like a very decent result.

In 2009, the Citroen management announced its readiness to make 6 copies of the model, the cost of each of which was estimated at $ 2.1 million, but after a while this venture was abandoned.

Citroen Survolt

In 2010, after the media success of the Citroen GT, the management of the French brand decided to please its fans again by presenting the conceptual sports car Citroen Survolt.

The car received a simply phenomenal appearance, which is still capable of giving odds to many modern supercars.

Among the main features of the model were: viciously squinted head optics, spectacular alloy wheels, similar to turbine blades, a large wing and an air intake on the roof.

Under the hood of the concept is a 272-horsepower electric motor, which provides acceleration from zero to hundreds in 5 seconds. and a top speed of 260 km / h.

Unfortunately, the car was never destined to go into production, although there were quite a few people who were ready to buy the Survolt for almost any money.

Citroen metropolis

Shortly before the opening of the Shanghai Auto Show in 2010, Citroen showed off its new concept, the Citroen Metropolis, developed by the team of the Chinese division of the company.

The car has a futuristic and elegant appearance, impressive dimensions (5300 x 2000 x 1400 mm) and a high-quality interior that can compete with the best flagship sedans of our time.

Under the hood of the concept car, a six-cylinder gasoline engine was installed, generating 273 "horses" and peak thrust of 377 Nm, as well as a small electric motor.

The total power of the power plants reached 463 liters. with. and peak 430 Nm of thrust. Their "partner" was a 7-speed automatic transmission with a dual-clutch system, which provided acceleration to hundreds in 6.1 seconds. and a top speed of 296 km / h.

The declared fuel consumption, thanks to the presence of an electric motor, was only 5.2 l / 100 km in combined travel mode.

Citroen SM

In 1970, Citroen's lineup was expanded with the prestigious and expensive coupe-like hatchback, dubbed "SM". At that time, the car had a bright and unusual appearance, which was designed by Robert Opron.

Initially, a 2.7-liter 170-horsepower petrol engine was located under the hood of the car, and later also a 3-liter engine generating 180 hp. s, capable of accelerating the car to a maximum of 217 km / h. Acceleration from 0 to 100 took about 8.3 seconds, which by the standards of that time was a very decent result.

The production of the car continued until 1975, when the car was not taken off the assembly line.

Citroen DS3 Racing

In 2010, Citroen released a limited edition three-door hatchback Citroen DS3 Racing, based on the "elite" DS3 model.

Unlike the "civilian" version, the novelty had a striking appearance, a highly efficient aerodynamic body kit, a modernized interior and more efficient filling.

In addition, for better aerodynamics and greater stability, the ride height has been lowered by 15 mm, and the width of the front and rear axles has been increased by 30 mm.

A 1.6-liter 197-horsepower turbo petrol engine was installed under the hood of the "charged" hatchback, which allows changing the first hundred in 6.5 seconds. and reach the maximum 235 km / h.

The car was produced in the period 2010-2014, for which only 2,000 copies of the model were produced.

Citroen C4 VTS

Almost simultaneously with the release of the first Citroen C4, the French company presented its sports version, which received the prefix "VTS" in the name.

The car differed from its "civil" modification only by the presence of a small spoiler located on the luggage compartment lid, as well as a more productive filling.

So, under the hood of the car there was a 2-liter 180-horsepower gasoline engine, aggregated by an uncontested 5-speed "mechanics" that allows you to change the first hundred in 8.3 seconds. and develop a peak 227 km / h.

In addition to the advanced technical component, the car offered a wide range of equipment, including parking sensors, adjustable xenon optics, cruise control, Alcantara interior trim and much more.

Citroen DS4

In 2015, the DS brand, a premium division of Citroen, introduced a new generation of the five-door DS4 hatchback.

In comparison with its predecessor, the car has received a more striking appearance, improved interior and modernized "technology". The top-end version of the hatchback received a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that generates 210 hp. s and maximum 285 Nm of torque, at 6000 and 1750 rpm, respectively.

A couple of the power plant is a 6-level manual transmission, which allows you to count on acceleration from zero to hundreds in 7.8 seconds. and a top speed of 235 km / h.

Conclusion

As you can see, Citroen has never set itself the goal of creating the fastest car in the world, focusing on the appearance, innovation and manufacturability of its products.
