As already mentioned, Mercedes has unveiled an unusual car concept in Las Vegas. The body of the car is in a futuristic style, and the functions that the CIAA has are surprising at every step.

Exterior Mercedes CIAA

In its shape, the car is somewhat reminiscent of a racing car, with tight, streamlined shapes. A completely unusual car for daily use and just for driving.

The body of the car is the first thing to talk about. The aerodynamic shape of the CIAA is the first thing you notice. At the front, the LED headlights are hidden behind a huge radiator grill, and the Mercedes-Benz emblem is placed in the middle of the grill. According to the manufacturer, the aerodynamic resistance of the car is 0.25 Cx. This is also accompanied by a polished body surface. Since this is a concept, only a gray body was available at the show.

When a speed of 80 km / h is reached, the Mercedes CIAA's body shape changes, and the dynamic resistance coefficient Cx changes from 0.25 to 0.19. Active elements on the rear section of the CIAA are activated, flaps are activated in the front bumper and radiator grille, thereby optimizing the aerodynamics of the car.

The front bumper spoiler extends inward. Flaps close on the radiator grille, and flaps slide out on the side of the fenders. The most noticeable changes occur at the rear of the CIAA, thanks to the body transformation, it is extended by 390 mm, thereby reducing air turbulence. Together with all this, changes are taking place on wheels. The position of the wheel hub changes, moving outward by 50 mm, thereby making the discs not concave, but almost flat. Thanks to all this, aerodynamic drag is reduced.

Sideways in the CIAA are missing, any clues and, oddly enough, side mirrors. Despite the shape, the car is made in the form-factor of a four-door coupe body. CIAA doors are missing opening handles, replaced with touch panels in the glass area. It is enough to knock and the doors will open on their own and also close on their own after landing, as the manufacturer claims.

The car in the full sense of the word is stuffed with a variety of sensors, sensors and controllers to ensure safety and comfortable driving. All openings and closings are carried out through sensors and sensors.

The rear end of the Mercedes-Benz CIAA also surprises with its unusual design. With eight segments that change aerodynamics, the car can look different. The feet are also made with the latest technology based on LEDs. An aerodynamic grille was placed in the middle, which, similarly to the front, closes or opens when changing the speed limit. The feet were positioned on either side of the back.

The roof of the Mercedes CIAA is made in a panoramic style. One continuous glass is installed over its entire length, which simultaneously serves as a panoramic roof and rear window. The windscreen is installed separately.

Dimensions of the Mercedes-Benz CIAA concept:

  • length 5040 mm;
  • width - 1995 mm;
  • CIAA height 1305 mm;
  • wheelbase 2795 mm;
  • clearance - 100 mm;
  • rear track 1770 mm;
  • front track 1710 mm.

As already mentioned, the Mercedes CIAA lacks side mirrors, they are replaced by side cameras, the image from which is displayed on a large display in the cabin. CIAA glass also surprises in that it is painted in body color, but not with a tint film, but thanks to screen printing. According to the manufacturer, this technology is not planned to be used on production models in the near future, as it only worsens lateral visibility.

Mercedes-Benz CIAA salon

The interior of the CIAA itself is no less surprising, since everything is made in light colors with blue neon lighting, as is customary for a futuristic style. The four-seater Mercedes salon shows how the interior of future luxury models may look like in the future. The structure of the seats is made of light-alloy aluminum and covered with light leather.

The front panel of the CIAA is somewhat reminiscent of the panel from the latest Mercedes-Benz S-Class. On the dashboard, two large screens were located, which fully show both the state of the car and the image from cameras around the perimeter. The image is also displayed on the rear-view mirror, in which an additional display is mounted.

The steering wheel of the CIAA is made in the characteristic shape of the S-Class and Mercedes sports cars. It has buttons for driving and changing parameters while driving. Immediately behind the wheel, they placed the hands-pedals for gear shifting.

In the lower part of the CIAA, under the panel, instead of the usual gearbox, a large touchscreen display was placed, thanks to which the entire car is controlled. This whole sensor and sensor design is based on Car-to-X technology. Thanks to this system, according to the manufacturer, it is possible to communicate with other similar vehicles.

On the CIAA touch panel, you can easily select the direction of the air in the car, set the temperature regime, select the driving mode and adjust other parameters for yourself. A little further than the panel is the remote control, which performs the same functions as the standard touch panel.

The most surprising thing for the Mercedes CIAA was that despite the large number of sensors, door closers, and other electronics, all four doors from the passenger compartment are opened using mechanical handles, as in ordinary Mercedes luxury class. The rear row of seats is no different from the latest Mercedes models.

Overall, we can say that the CIAA cabin is not very complex and thanks to the touch panel and two large displays on the front panel, there is more room in the cabin, thereby eliminating many mechanical controls. Rumor has it that some of these functionalities of the car will be used in the next generations of production models, but which ones have not yet been specified.

Characteristics CIAA Mercedes

The engine of a CIAA car, that's what interests everyone who has seen such an unusual car, inside and out, and so it is clear, but what is hidden under the hood remains a mystery.

The Mercedes-Benz CIAA is driven by a hybrid gasoline-electric unit, the total power of which is 279 hp. and a torque of 600 Nm. With such parameters, the car is capable of accelerating to a maximum speed of 250 km / h. The vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.5 seconds.

Given the abundance of car electronics and aerodynamic tuning systems, the distance the CIAA is able to travel on battery will vary with body tuning and technology. In normal driving mode, the distance will be 62 km, and with aerodynamic tuning - 66 km. The CO2 emissions range from 28 to 31 g / km.

Disc brakes are installed on both the front and rear of the CIAA. According to the manufacturer, the weight of the car is 1800 kg, and the volume of the gasoline engine is 2.0 liters. It's hard to talk about the cost of such a Mercedes-Benz CIAA, since the car was originally calculated as a concept with the maximum futuristic style.
